Luukas Pernu Internship in Production – “Here, You Get to Learn by Doing” When Luukas Pernu started his internship at Rani Plast in early May 2026, he was welcomed by a large factory and plenty of new things to learn. In just a few months, his initial uncertainty has turned into confidence—and, above all, an even greater enthusiasm for learning. Originally from Kokkola, Luukas is studying for a dual qualification in process industry at Kpedu. His goal is to become a process operator and pursue a career in manufacturing. He found his internship through a recommendation from one of his teachers. “My teacher suggested that I apply here. I picked up the phone, called Joakim, and through him I got in touch with Kirsi. That’s how everything started.” A Big Factory – A Warm Welcome Luukas still remembers his first days at work. “At first, I felt a little lost because it’s such a big place. But I was warmly welcomed from day one and received excellent guidance.” He is especially grateful for the support he has received during his internship. “Tuomas Haapaniemi has been my supervisor, but many others have also taken the time to teach me new things. That has been amazing. Everyone has been incredibly helpful.” The welcoming atmosphere has been one of the highlights of his internship. “The team has really surprised me in a positive way. It’s nice to come to work knowing that help is always available whenever you need it.” Learning Something New Every Day During his internship, Luukas has gained hands-on experience in many aspects of production. His tasks have included packing at Machine 13109, carrying out inspection rounds, performing stretch tests, weighing rolls and assisting with machine cleaning and start-ups. Machine start-ups have been the most interesting part of the job. “They’re the most fascinating. Even though I’ve seen the process many times, I always learn something new. And sometimes things don’t go according to plan—that’s often when you learn the most.” When asked what he has learned during the summer, the answer comes immediately. “So much. Before I started here, I knew almost nothing about this kind of work.” Responsibility from Day One One thing has made a particularly strong impression on Luukas. “I’ve been trusted to do real work. I’ve never felt like I was ‘just an intern’. I’ve been given responsibility and the opportunity to learn by doing.” He believes this is one of Rani Plast’s greatest strengths as an internship workplace. “The team is encouraging. Interns are trusted and given the chance to learn through practical experience.” “I Definitely Recommend It” There have also been plenty of memorable moments along the way. “One night shift we were all pretty tired when the machine suddenly broke down. We couldn’t help laughing—’this too, in the middle of the night!’ But everyone immediately started working together to solve the problem.” Outside work, Luukas plans to spend the summer relaxing at the family cottage while preparing for his examinations in the autumn. When asked to describe his internship in just one word, his answer is simple. “Educational.” Finally, Luukas has a message for other young people considering an internship. “I definitely recommend it. The departments are a good size, and you really get to learn here. Interns are given responsibility, the team is supportive, and you learn something new every day.” His recommendation is clear: “I definitely recommend Rani Plast as an internship workplace.”
